Maths tuition
I offer private one-to-one tuition in mathematics for all ages. I am fully DBS checked and have been teaching since 2017. Most of my teaching is done via Zoom or at my house in Bow, or I can travel to students local to East London.
I take a friendly and patient approach to teaching. Maths can cause a lot of frustration, but a little help outside the classroom can make a huge difference. With a 2:1 in Music & Maths from the University Of Birmingham, I have a solid foundation to help students with new and often seemingly difficult concepts. Sometimes all a student needs is to be pointed in the right direction, or sometimes just needs a little faith in their abilities - these things can make all the difference.
Maths truly is a creative subject. With this in mind, I give students the fundamental skills for understanding how maths really works - helping them discover patterns and manipulate numbers comfortably, rather than just ticking boxes on a curriculum. This also has the lucky benefit of being much more enjoyable!
I’ve taken numerous children through GCSEs, helping them to achieve their target grade and beyond. I’ve also tutored the 11 Plus exams required for private and grammar schools, while across the academic year I’ve helped students rise to higher sets.

Testimonials
“Ellie (eight years old) was very happy after the lesson. She doesn't moan at all before a lesson with Joel... which never happens about anything else!”
— Adel, Ealing
"My 11-year old daughter says 'I just understand it better when Joel explains it' - I don't think I need to add anything! Except that she moved up a set within 3 months of starting tuition, and based on her grades she seems very likely to move up again soon."
— Rosie, Hanwell
